About Us

 The Hoplites African Aid Foundation (HAAF) is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to uplifting communities across Africa through a multifaceted approach that goes beyond traditional health interventions. Established in April 2021 as the Hoplites Sickle Cell Foundation, our organization initially focused on supporting sickle cell warriors. However, recognizing the broader needs of our communities, we rebranded in November 2023 to address a wider array of critical issues, including education, economic empowerment, environmental sustainability, and social support for vulnerable populations.

At HAAF, we believe that true empowerment comes from addressing the interconnected challenges that affect African communities. Our programs are designed to provide holistic solutions that not only improve health outcomes but also foster education, economic independence, environmental stewardship, and social well-being. From offering scholarships to students in need to providing vocational training, promoting sustainable practices, and ensuring care for the most vulnerable, HAAF is committed to creating lasting change across the continent. By integrating innovative technology, community-driven initiatives, and strategic partnerships, HAAF strives to create an Africa where every individual could thrive.

Health Access and Empowerment Program (HAEP)

Description: A comprehensive program providing free medical check-ups, vaccinations, and chronic illness management support, including telemedicine services for remote communities. It also offers mental health counselling and workshops on nutrition and preventive health.

Key Activities:

  1. Mobile clinics to reach underserved areas.
  2. Health education campaigns targeting common diseases and conditions.
  3. Collaboration with local healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.

Education for Empowerment Initiative (EEI)

Description: A multi-faceted educational initiative aimed at providing scholarships, mentorship, and skill-building workshops to underprivileged students and youth. This initiative focuses on digital literacy, STEM education, and vocational training to prepare participants for future careers.

Women’s Economic Empowerment Project (WEEMP)

Sustainable Communities and Environmental Action Program (SCEAP)

Policy Advocacy and Systems Change Initiative (PASCI)

Tech for Good Project (T4G)

Description: A project leveraging technology to improve access to education and healthcare, and economic resources. This includes developing a digital platform that provides online courses, telemedicine services, and a marketplace for local artisans and entrepreneurs.

Below is a timeline of our key events and their lasting impacts:

7th May 2021: Hoplites’ First School Outreach

  • Activity: Engaged with students to raise awareness about sickle cell disease and the importance of genotype testing.
  • Impact: Educated over 37 students about sickle cell disease, fostering early awareness and promoting healthy choices.

19th June 2021: Sickle Cell Day Outreach

  • Activity: Conducted a free genotype testing event for 81 individuals.
  • Impact: Empowered participants with knowledge of their genotypes, enabling informed health decisions and encouraging proactive management of sickle cell disease.

18th September 2021: 1,000-Man Walk for Sickle Cell Awareness Month

  • Activity: Organized a large-scale awareness walk involving 432 participants to promote awareness of sickle cell disease.
  • Impact: Raised significant awareness in the community about sickle cell disease, reducing stigma and encouraging public support for those affected.

27th March 2022: One-Year Anniversary and Official Launch

  • Activity: Celebrated HAAF’s first anniversary with an official launch event.
  • Impact: Marked a milestone in HAAF’s journey, reaffirming our commitment to our mission and expanding our outreach efforts.

13th April 2022: Sickle Cell Bill Advocacy Walk

  • Activity: Led an advocacy walk to support the passage of a bill for better sickle cell care and support and actively took part in the hearing sessions for the sickle cell bill
  • Impact: Increased legislative awareness and support for sickle cell disease management, fostering a more supportive policy environment.

16th June 2022: Know Your Genotype School Project at GSS Garki, Abuja, FCT

  • Activity: Implemented a school-based initiative to educate students about the importance of knowing their genotype.
  • Impact: Reached over 211 students, encouraging early testing and fostering a culture of health awareness among youth.

4th September 2022: The Warriors Hangout

  • Activity: Hosted a social gathering for individuals living with sickle cell disease to share experiences and provide mutual support.
  • Impact: Strengthened the sense of community and provided emotional support to over 67 participants, reducing feelings of isolation.

15th December 2022: Collaboration with One Nigeria Cup

  • Activity: Partnered with the One Nigeria Cup to promote awareness and raise funds for sickle cell initiatives.
  • Impact: Expanded outreach and community engagement through sports, attracting diverse support for HAAF’s initiatives.

18th February 2023: Warriors Hangout

  • Activity: Organized another social event for sickle cell warriors to connect and share their journeys.
  • Impact: Continued to build a supportive network, offering encouragement and shared learning for 72 participants.

17th June 2023: Sickle Cell Advocacy Campaign and Picnic

  • Activity: Combined advocacy efforts with a community picnic to raise awareness about sickle cell disease.
  • Impact: Fostered a relaxed, educational environment that engaged over 53 attendees, promoting awareness and understanding in a familyfriendly setting.

1st August 2023: Visit to National Hospital in Collaboration with National Lottery

  • Activity: Partnered with the National Lottery for a hospital visit to support sickle cell patients.
  • Impact: Provided direct support to 25 patients, offering emotional comfort and essential resources.

13th August 2023: Symposium with National Lottery

  • Activity: Co-hosted a symposium to discuss advancements in sickle cell care and the role of community support.
  • Impact: Facilitated knowledge sharing among advocates, fostering collaboration and innovation in care.

24th February 2024: Warriors Hangout

  • Activity: Continued the tradition of hosting a gathering for sickle cell warriors to bond and share experiences.
  • Impact: Reinforced community ties and offered a platform for over 71 participants to share strategies for managing their condition and livingwell.
